We Dream Dawn with Laura Goldhamer

WE, as all life,
DREAM, and hence create,
DAWN, a new day.

In 2015, WE DREAM DAWN! quickly grew from a distant dream into a new life when Sage Cook decided to take leave from Elephant Revival, a neo-folk quintet he had helped found in 2006. Fueled by lofty ideals about approaching art while living closer to the land, this new project is honing in on a new sort of american dream. “We are hoping to be growing most of our own food in a few years, because I feel most of the worlds problems are systemic of the way we cultivate our food and medicine” Sage states.

Although WE DREAM DAWN was born from a subsistence farming adventure you may never come to that conclusion by listening to them. Somewhere between vintage analog psychedelia and dreamy electro folk pop these folks are representing rural america in a whole new light.

Laura Goldhamer

Laura Goldhamer draws from a variety of purely American traditions; however, Laura’s ability to merge traditional Americana with the avant-garde, mixing inventive homemade technologies with earnest folk, is particularly noteworthy.

Jon Stickley Trio

Jon Stickley Trio is a genre-defying and cinematic instrumental trio, who’s deep grooves, innovative flatpicking, and sultry-spacy violin moves the listener’s head, heart, and feet.

“It’s not your father’s acoustic-guitar music—although Stickley’s pop showed him his first chords when he was 12 years old. Instead, Stickley’s Martin churns out a mixture of bluegrass, Chuck Berry, metal, prog, grunge, and assorted other genres—all thoroughly integrated into a personal style,” writes Guitar Player Magazine.

Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen

Music feeds the soul!

Solivan grew up near Modesto, California.[1] His grandmother on his father’s side played mandolin and fiddle, and his father plays the banjo, guitar, bass, and mandolin. His mother’s side of the family included classical violin and cello players. He fell in love with bluegrass music at an early age. Solivan formed his first band, Generation Gap in the late 1980s. They once opened for Ralph Stanley at a California show.[2]

In 1995, at age 18, Solivan moved to Alaska where he sat first chair violin in the University of Alaska’s Symphony Orchestra.[3] and played mandolin in his friend Ginger Boatwright's band.[4] While in Alaska, he met his future wife, Leah Sturgis.[5]

In 2002, Solivan recorded his first solo album I Am a Rambler when he temporarily moved to Nashville from Alaska to pursue musical goals. He was assisted by friends such as David Grier, Rob Ickes, and Shad Cobb.[6] After a year, Solivan returned to Alaska to marry Sturgis.[5]

Taarka

Taarka

Taarka seamlessly fuses brilliant instrumental chops with songwriting of great depth and creativity, cooking up musical “sustenance that stays with you long after you’ve pushed away from the table.” Adventurers through the many landscapes of music and true world travelers, veterans of 1000-year floods and veggie oil tour buses, David (voice, mandolin, guitar, and octave mandolin) and Enion Pelta-Tiller (voice, 5-string violin) spin stories and melodies that delight, inspire, and move all who listen.

What does Taarka mean? In Indian cooking, “taarka” is the word to describe roasting spices to create the base for an indian culinary delicacy. A wet t(a)arka is a mix of garlic, ginger and onions sauteed in ghee. A dry t(a)arka is a mixture of whole spices, dry-roasted or fried in oil, til the seeds begin to pop. Taarka is in fact the sound of the spices roasting…

Blue Canyon Boys

Blue Canyon Boys

The Blue Canyon Boys are equal parts purists and innovators when it comes to Bluegrass: they stay true to the form’s roots while constantly reimagining their relationship to tradition. The result is a toe-tapping mix of haunting standards, genre-bending arrangements, and catchy original numbers—all built on the bedrock of their collective bluegrass mastery. Classic bluegrass, clean and raw, blends effortlessly with the band’s homegrown compositions, then peppered with a judicious cover or two, such as the band’s riveting take on Pink Floyd’s “Time.”

Whether calling on their old timey musical roots or reconnoitering the future, the band’s musical prowess never wavers. This is high lonesome sound at its best: a driving pulse that weaves through harmonies and fierce rhythms, always with the reminder that as long as the music plays we are never quite alone.

Blue Canyon Boys:
Gary Dark on mandolin, Jason Hicks on guitar, Drew Garrett on bass, and Chris Roszell on banjo.

Head for the Hills

Head for the Hills prides itself on defying expectation, turning neophytes into converts and genre purists exploratory listeners

Like a painter that starts in acrylic and graduates to oils, Head for the Hills is deeper and richer in their 15th year as a band, with a wider palette of sonic textures at their disposal. Dorm room jam sessions have turned into a decade plus on the road--from humble coffee shops to theaters, festivals, roadhouses and clubs all across the country.

Over time those sounds and influences have crept more and more into the bluegrass beginnings of the band, morphing into the seasoned eclecticism of Say Your Mind. The new songs are quinnessential Head for the Hills; genre-stradling, lyrically deep, and danceable, with a crew of collaborators bringing the best of Colorado acoustic, roots, and soul music together.
